So they appear alike.
One such school was Shortridge Indianapolis. Why this one? For one, it was a public school with student attitude of a private one. Upper class men dressed in dabber shirts and ties and drove home in racy cars. Times were good!
It was the people that walked through the doors each day for four years
that tell this story.
One alumni is Harold Poole. One place to meet Pool was in the Wrestling Room.
The Wrestling Room was a over- heated den with mats, weights and a Sauna Tub.
Pool was a heavy weight and a school star. This means it was a pleasure to be with him and watch him work-out and see his muscles 'rip'.
His physique was unusual. Most heavies were stocky or tall and soft- even bullies. Not Harold. He also ran the Football. He was busy in amateur physique contest with admirable calf muscles. Many guys ignored their legs in quest for bulky chests and arms.
One question is still debated ; Where he got his famous shoulder blotch?
Was it a birthmark or result of "over reaching with the training bar". The debate continues.
Once a week , the Wrestling Coach would showcase his stars. Harold Pool squared off with Paul Dill. Two of the biggest and talented of school pupils in the middle of the gym floor, no ropes -just mats. What a show!
Pool was all- man. He could be found socializing with one of his many female admirers in the school halls. Eddye was cute, petite and the perfect partner . She handled the slow speech but was never reported to be abused. Question is, how did she fraternize with the most talented guy of the times and not show attitude?
Like many , Pool 'grew away' from the Mid West. Yet the Midwest never forgets their people- especially those larger than life.View cinema of Conan or Hercules and Pool comes to mind. He comes to mind because he's not there in any the screen epics. His speech was slow.The Italian produced sagas were dubbed in by voice actors anyways. So why not more of Pool?
Harold showed up in a Weider Brand Barbell Set as a model. We posted him on our gym wall. That's it! Built to Last.Harold Pool. He will never leave home again.
